Rural Access to Care

Right now, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants can practice in any Georgia location without restriction.  Despite that, NPs and PAs tend to work in urban and suburban areas more than rural areas.

It is a myth that NPs and PAs go rural in any greater numbers than physicians do, even in states without physician supervision.

Changing scope of practice laws does not increase rural access to care.

Oregon data shown here because Oregon NPs have been allowed independent practice for more than 40 years, yet NPs remain in urban and suburban areas.

This holds true in EVERY state that has legislated unsupervised practice for NPs.
